In this two-part video I will be going over all the movies directed by the Japanese director Takeshi Kitano.

I had limited exposure to his movies and recently I went through all of his movies chronologically and thought it would be a wonderful idea to give my opinion on his movies.

I give a short sypnosis about each movies, spoiler-free of course, and highlight what I like most about the movies.

EDIT: I apologize for the over-usage of the words Well Done and Basically.

  • Today I've just watched the his brand new film "Outrage". It is filled with violence, dirtiness and ugliness, poetic sentiment and love are thoroughly excluded, therefore that is so cool and too interesting. I can understand the critics in Cannes had antipathies. This is not refined director Kitano's work, but the one by Beat Takeshi, a Talented entertainer filled with Destruction impulses.

  • I see, I am very interested in watching this movie. I havent seen any trailer yet, hopefully the western world gets a released quickly enough after Japan.

    It sounds very interesting!

  • Great retrospective, he really is one of those actors that has an incredibly powerful screen presence that not many contemporary actors can equal, no matter what genre he's acting in, but imo especially when he's portraying those characters that are constantly on the very edge of sanity. I think he's really proven that insane and violent characters seem much more disturbing and beleivable when they're actually detached and unaffected by that violence, like he often portrays them. I 've heard...

  • Thanks! Definitely agree with his presence, he can play a wide variety but the violent/insane are the best. Definitely not the lack of emotion inside, he just doesnt show it.

Takeshis is pretty weird, it felt similar to Inland Empire.

  • Another great video on one of my favourite directors. Keep up the good work :)

  • Thanks, one of my faovorite directors as well.

  • ...many people say that his acting can often come off as emotionless, i really disagree with that. He really just interiorizes a lot, just like in some more oldschool japanese cinema where the more silent and restrained characters are really yhe strongest ones. I haven't seen many of his latest movies though, the comparison between "Takeshis" and Lynch's movies really made me want to watch that one.
