Sorry, I correct myself here. Isaiah 22:21 a `Father` to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. Note the parallels to Matt 16. To any fair minded person its is beyond doubt that Our Lord intended St Peter (& his successors) to have all this authority in the Kingdom of God. `Call no-one your father` Jesus was simply explaining the proper response to authority. Why dont protestants call their ministers or pastors Father? everyone else in Bible history and in Life does.

@hoffabrando We Catholics call the Pope Holy Father because thats the role Our lord gave his Vicar on earth. Before you start squirming check it out. When Our Lord gives St Peter the Keys to the Kingdom in Matt 16, Our Lord is quoting the text of Isaiah 22! Check it out.  Rather like the office of Prime Minister in Britains monarchy. He administers the Kingdom for the King (Davidic Monarchy) Isaiah 22 The Keys to the Kingdom/A father to many nations/Royal authority/what he opens/closes etc!

@ abukid! please dont be offended but, have you ever prayed for anyone else? asked anyone to pray for you? if not, yours is a peculiar existence, if so, then you are plainly a hypocrite - why pray for anyone or have them pray for you if we should should just pray directly to Jesus? Saints are alive in Heaven! Where did Moses and Elijah come from at the transfiguration???? Or Jeremiah 15 `And the LORD said `Even if Moses and Samuel were to stand before me, my heart would not go out to these people` (moses and Samuel were very much alive in Heaven, and could plead for the people! Thats what Catholics do - ask our Blessed Mother and saints to pray with and for us!
