@xaviqaz But whether or not the current crop of Democrats are socialists really has nothing to do with my original comment. Perhaps you didn't really read it before commenting....
@xaviqaz Many are proud socialists? I would like a list of them. So you are saying that "many" "progressive" Democrats in Congress favor government ownership of the means of production? I would love to see your proof.
@anthonym267 I see a red map with blue enclaves. Many of those enclaves are ruled by "minorities" massively voting democratic. Look at Pat Quinn: re-elected taking 3 of 102 counties.
@baddave62 Moderates? Half of blue dogs are out. The progressive caucus increases its number and will represent 40-45% of democratic seats in House. Many of those "progressives" are proud socialists.
Before the takeover of the Republican party by ex-Democrats (and Dixiecrats) from the South, moderation was the norm for Republicans. The fact that you would have to use the qualifier "Moderate" for a Republican tells you how wingnut-ridden the party has become. It's like having to say "not crazy." Although it is not likely, I still hope for a resurgence of Republican moderates. And I hope that the right-wingers will leave and form their own party.
America as a whole is generally center, center-right. So moderate Republicans like Castle are best representing the normal American. Ppl just become philosophically embroiled by the left and right and it makes it difficult for mainstream policies. I personally think the conservatives have all the economic, fiscal ideas but Bush's foreign policy sucked.
Its ridiculous that the GOP is trying to rid their party of its moderates. For one, moderate means their centrist, not liberal, 2, Americans are not wing-nuts! Last I checked, a bigger party will do more than a smaller party.;
Mike Castle, like Lincolc Chafee, are/were liberal republicans. Not moderates
