when making fire you should wear gloves. Last time I didn't I ended up with a burn scar on both my f u finger and my index finger

@sinkingrob11 because when wet or cold they fail

I think many of you are being to literal. The demo is to show additional options. Sure In the perfect situation you would have matches or a bic lighter assuming they went wet or broken.
-
why not just carry a bic lighter?

Matches are more economical and easier to use. You can also use a cheap butane torch...much easier and cheaper

I always like to dig a small 12"x12" pit for a fire in the wind. Thanks.

just a heads up the knife was named after Jim Bowie. people pronounce it BoWee or BooWee but Boa is a first ;o). either way sharp is always good. look him up if you like history and westerns. Jim/James was a pretty interesting guy as well as a part of history enough to have a knife named after him.

Sorry, but that's not windy!.. The fire & smoke is going straight upward and the vegetation around you doesn't move an inch. Why not try having a bit of additional tinder underneath your wool already, that way it'll catch better and you wont have to immediately drop tinder directly on top and nearly kill it. Thanks for your videos, all the best.
A firesteel is indeed superior and works better with natural tinder. However, the sparklite can be used one-handed, for example if you get injured in a survival situation.
Best thing would be to carry a firesteel on your person, and a spark-lite with some tinderquick in your PSK.

He did say its his 1st time using it. Spark lites work great even wet and take up little space. ashcaw is right about tinder build a nest of tinder , spark lite tabs will burn about 2min. giving you time to add more.
