The first ride with my new Rowingbike Thys 209. The roads were mostly clean which was a good thing because I've not ridden such a bike for 6 months.

  • Have you tried commuting in heavy traffic? How is that? Getting the pedals on seem pretty hard based on the video.

  • @ponypruhest I haven't been riding in heavy traffic, but as with everything new... it get's better the more you use it. Getting you feet in the pedals gets better every time. The first time it took me tens of seconds, now it's a matter of a few seconds. I bet that will improve to within two strokes.

  • I do not think it is only the cold from the north that causes snow, the sky also need to contain water vapor that can turn into snow, you guys have lots of canals...

Anyway, I wanted to ask if a rowing bike exercises all muscles in the arms? or just some of them?

  • @ponypruhest I don't know exactly, I guess more the 'pulling' muscles than the pushing ones. I do know the bike works on the entire body (legs, torso and arms). After this first 40 min. ride I could feel my abs the next day.

  • So little snow we have lots more in Denmark, I doubt i can ride my Mango once I get home. The Thys 209 sure looks nice. How easy is it to hold the balance? Did you not also row in a boat? How similar is the rowing?

  • @ponypruhest Yeah, but Denmark is MUCH more Northerly so that's not fair. It's like comparing the Norh pole with the rain forest ;-) It's quite easy to ride it, although I have to practice it at low speeds, corners and clicking my feet in the the pedals. Indeed I also row in a boat. This is quite the same but also different. In a boat you first push with the legs, than the back an then the arms. On the bike it's all at the same time. Also on the bike you can see where you're going...

  • Row row row your bike, gently down the road.

  • mooi fietsie mooi muziekje gr jan

  • Incredicle!!! Respect to ride such a bent bike, I couldn't balance it...

  • Very courageous, first trip on slippery roads.

SPD is not the most suitable system for a rowingbike eh? I had the same problems clicking in with my rowingbike until I changed to Speedplay Frog. The Bebop pedals also seem to click in easily too.
