Welcome to Jonathan Dickinson State Park. Located just south of Stuart, this park teems with wildlife in 13 natural communities, including sand pine scrub, pine flatwoods, mangroves, and river swamps. The Loxahatchee River, Florida's first federally designated Wild and Scenic River, runs through the park. Ranger-guided tours of the 1930s pioneer homestead of Trapper Nelson are available year-round. Visitors can enjoy paved and off-road biking, equestrian, and hiking trails. Boating, canoeing, and kayaking along the river are also great ways to see the park. Hours of operation are from 8am until sundown 365 days a year. Visitors can arrange boat tours of the river and rent canoes, kayaks, and motorboats by calling (561) 746-1466. Located 12 miles south of Stuart on U.S. 1. Be sure to check for tour hours and rates as they are subject to change.

This is the largest park I have ever been to! It's a great place to drive around and see what the natural terrain is like in this part of Florida, and it has trails everywhere for dirt biking, horseback riding, and hiking.
There's a look-out tower and camping site, along with canoeing and play areas.
The ranger at the gate was really friendly and gave us several brochures. Definitely someplace to check out...just make sure to bring plenty of water with you if you take a long hike!
