Russ travels to Penang Malaysia and finds nothing but existential despair awaiting him. He stays at the decrepid Swiss ... all » Hotel on Chulia street. He hikes with his friend Tara up Penang Hill... a six hour journey up two mountains. He also comes across a curious pod of monkeys on the trail.

My school was just right behind the street you stayed on.
I guess you're the one of those people who come round to Penang...you could've just paid $US30 to stay round the corner for a decent 3 star hotel. And I believe there were lots of other backpacker lodgings around the area far better than Swiss hotel.
it takes a normal Penangite about 2.5 - 3 hours to hike up Penang Hill (whichever track you take). 6 hours? lol.
