this music makes me cry
-
sounds kinda Chrono-Trigger-y to me

@SoulSavior Right! It's not, like it's not too late for me to reactivate my account!

Haven't played FFXI, but the more I listen to the music, the more I want to play! It's not too late to start, right, right?! ^_^

Completing the mission by rescuing Tedimont from the orcs...good times..great memories! Can't wait to go back.

This is because the entire song is a very subtle motif derived from the slower portion of the of the FF XI opening theme (first song in the OST, skip to around 3:45). But you're still very correct in saying that this is a testament to Uematsu's compositional ingenuity; he retrieved an obscure, vaguely familiar melody for an unrelated song very appropriately named "recollection." Uematsu cleverly uses familiarity and consistency to keep his music interesting.

While XIV is beginning to look more promising, it will never be the same to play as XI was. We were all a different age when XI came out. It was the very first MMO for several people that followed the series. For FFXIV the expectations were much higher. Several people left XI for XIV only to quit both games altogether. It's unfortunate, but if this did not happen, Square-Enix would have continued to ignore and troll fans with lack of information on updates and content. They are listening now.

@ashitakaharuo It is not dead by far.

Hey, XI, like most MMO's, sucked at first as well. Give XIV some time. As they update it, it will become so much better.

One of my favorite tracks. <3
I really don't understand how he does it - I never played far enough into FFXI to hear this, and even still I have the irritating, unshakable feeling that I've heard this before somewhere, like I've known the song since before I can remember. And the song's title is just...eerie, all things considered. This bastard has been evoking more emotion with his music than anything else for as long as I've been alive.

Wonderful, this sort of tune captures the heart of FF. Beautifully simple and evocative.
