I have friends my own age, but it seems that with school, your choice of friends is defined by who is in your class (ie age mates). With homeschooling, my friends are of all ages, and are defined by more important critera. Also many kids my age seem to me to be really petty, worried about things in which I have no interest, while those a bit older have grown past that.
