A leisurely climb up Banshee Hill at the dunes in Winchester Bay, Oregon. May 2009.

Camera is a GoPro "Helmet Hero Wide" wide angle camera mounted to the side of my helmet.

Quad is a slightly warmed over 07 Raptor 700.

Weather was good, but the hill was quite rutted, so I only tooted up in 2nd gear. Girlfriend followed on her 89 Banshee. After I go back down, note the cool sounding sand rail that buzzed behind me at a good clip.

Banshee hill has changed a lot over the years. 10 years ago it was scary...now people go up it in reverse. Ah, progress.

  • banshee hill at first looks scary but its really not at all.

  • @DJRDarien Indeed. Some of that stuff off to the left is challenging.

I've also noticed a new trail starting to get used a lot even further to the left...still not too visible unless you look for it. That reminds me of how Banshee Hill was about 10 years ago. We'll see what this new trail looks like in 10 years time! It's a little different every season, for sure.

  • @DJRDarien The name of the hill is "Banshee Hill"....yes, it's a Raptor (My banshee was in pieces at home that year).

  • i'm 14 and i got a yamaha 350 raptor could i make it second gear?

  • @INSANETORQUEBOW Should not be a problem, as long as the sand is not too wet. I've seen quads get stuck in the ruts going up because the axle or swing arm gets high-centered. If you have paddles and the sand is not soaking wet, 2nd would not be a problem at all assuming your bike is running properly. I've seen a lot of other smaller stuff go up it no problem.

  • ya iv'e done some of those were you go down a hill turn around and punch it ya those are fun the first time i went to wichester there was this huge prymid shaped hill that i tried like 7000 times and only made it up like 1/2 way even some of the banshees were geting stuck my frend made it to the top on a 660 raptor. do you know were i can find a good map of all the really good spots in wichester

  • @flurry103

Yeah, it's pretty easy any more. Try going up the stuff to the left...a bit more of a challenge.

About 10 years ago, Banshee hill was pretty hard...you used ot have to duck under fallen trees (big ones) on the way up...right by where that little jog to the left is now.

There's a few other hill climbs on the 4th finger that are much more challenging...stuff you have to turn around at the bottom and come back up from. Give that a try...it's a blast.

  • im 16 i did banshee last year on my 1989 ltz 250 all the way to the top in second gear no problem
