If a tornado hits your community you are on your own, it your fault for living there. If you have ALS you should have picked your parents better. If you have premature baby you should have had less stress and had a better diet. Why should we regulate safety and maintenance on planes, trains, and buses, we can trust private industry will do it better and cheaper why would they not. Drugs no need for the FDA drug companies would never sell anything unsafe or ineffective, we can take word at it.

@Tomitstube, you don't seem to understand how Social Security works. So I'll explain it slowly: Your pay into Social Security all your life. Then when you retire, you get to take it all back. This is not welfare. This is a big savings account of YOUR money. Now do you understand?

Typical liberal mindset! We pay more because WE can pay more. We are not 37th in the world. We are number one in the world for quality. The only reason other countries can even afford their care is because companies can still make a profit in this country. Even then, these other countries are going broke with socialized medicine. If our government would not promise BIG benefits and start paying the full cost of existing benefits, we would not have a crisis.

Gee that leaves 69% insured, underinsured, or uninsured. You have your facts wrong again. We pay more in this country per person for health insurance than any industrialized country in the world and that is fact, and have the most number of uninsured. Countries that have socialized medicine or tightly regulated private insurance have lower costs and better out comes. We rank 37th in the world 2 steps above Cuba. The problem is that Government has not regulated enough.

No, clearly you do not realize that one of the biggest players in health insurance is the government. People on government healthcare programs is now around 31% of the population. Medicare and Medicaid only pay 80% / 60% of the cost of treating a patient. Who do you think picks up the rest of the cost? It is the government that screwed up the market by promising benefits and NOT paying the full cost of treating people. Learn the facts before you speak.

It is clear that you need to bone up on health care history.The rise in cost of health insurance can be directly traced to the fall on non profit insurance like Blue Cross and the rise of for profit insurance. The fact is that now less than 6 companies control 80% of the market. Capitalism at it finest, increase profits not by competing on price or service but buying your competitors so you can manipulate the market at the expense of the customers.

You can claim that anything has been debunked, that does not make it so. Really? Who FORCED them? These companies were run by your ethical government types. Are you saying that THEY would deal in sub prime predatory lending? You are the one behind the times. It is called global climate change because it has been proved the earth is NOT getting hotter, but it is always changing. Abstinence is the only form of birth control that works EVERYTIME it is used.

I can try to explain this to you but I think it is OVER your head. There is more money going out of Social Security NOW than is coming in. There is simply not enough works paying into the system. IF you remove the cap, then you have to admit that Social Security is nothing more than a WELFARE program. People would be paying in FAR MORE than they would ever receive. Answer my question, who do you think was going to pay the interest on this Social Security money?
