Legendary drummer Russ Kunkel laid down the backing beat on the 1972 Jackson Browne classic, Dr. My Eyes. On this iVideosongs title, Russ shows you how to play the drum parts for the song, and offers an excellent lesson on how to play a relatively simple part solidly. This is a sample of a 15 minute video available for download at iVideosongs.com.

  • So many things to love about "Dr. My Eyes," but for me it was always Russ Kunkel on those conga drums. I hope you know how much joy your percussion work has given to music fans over these many years.

  • One of the few great no ego drummers. Kunkel could always create a space for everyone to play within without pushing his own agenda. Listen to all is work with Jackson and JT - no other drummer lets those tunes breathe like he does. The combo of him and Lee Sklar is magnificent.

  • Great groove, I recently did a drum cover of this song. The groove on the record is just so deep that no matter how many times I've heard this song, it's like the first time. Great going Russ, I didn't know it was you on the record. I knew Jesse Ed Davis was playing that fine guitar track.

  • That's a good way to put it,bw362. He is a true team player and just plain seems to make everything better.

  • oops you forgot Shelly Mann

  • Russ played on a few of my sessions. His early work with James Taylor is classic and why my producer and I hired him. Russ and Jeff Porcaro. The ultimate west coast drummers.

  • learned about him from a steve winwood vid. i like him better w/o the creepy long hair :)

    really nice guy!

  • Russ is one of the best

  • Mad tight. That shuffle is beautiful. Young players should buckle down and learn it properly....this is a great example.
