  • The Sensei Robot is actually a dangerous system to use on patients because of the excessive force it provides to the catheter tip. Because the catheter is not flexible and flimsy, the heart wall "tents" and this procedure leads to many more perforations and complications compared to manual and magnetic catheter procedures.

IMO, Stoney Brook should brief patients on the dangers of this device, since it poses a hazard..according to some leading EP docs out there, including Dr. Andrea Natale.

  • A lot of centers have stopped using the Sensei because of the perforations and serious risk that it causes to patients. After paying 650K for these robots, hospitals end up using them less than one time per week compared to the usual cath lab activity of dozens per week....because the Sensei is incredibly high risk.

  • Actually things have changed. Several European studies now point to very low complication rate in the hand of trained and skilled physicians. Check on Wikipedia on SENSEI.
