La Cueca Sola is a visual performance that countered the denial of the disappeared during the Pinochet years. A version of the national dance, the cueca sola was developed during the dictatorship as a form of protest. The dance is done by a woman without a partner and she would have a photograph of the absent loved one while doing the dance. A powerful display of protest, women were the primary force to bring notice to their lost loved ones that was directed towards the dictatorship that demanded the whereabouts of the disappeared.
