They were joined by Gordon Brown as they paid tribute to the thousands of allied troops who lost their lives on June 6th 1944.
As they remembered fallen comrades, a Lancaster Bomber accompanied by two Spitfires roared overhead.
Earlier Mr Brown joined Barack Obama and Prince Charles at events in France to mark the 65th anniversary of the biggest ever seaborne invasion.
They gathered alongside French President Nicolas Sarkozy and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper for a service among the graves of thousands of US servicemen in Colleville-sur-Mer in Normandy.
Mr Obama said the day marks "not only the triumph of freedom, but it also marks how the trans-Atlantic alliance has allowed for extraordinary prosperity and security".
Thousands of Allied troops landed or parachuted on to occupied France on D-Day in an effort to free Europe from Nazi tyranny.
Exact figures for fatalities on the day itself are not available but estimates put the toll at 4,400.
During the service organised by the Royal British Legion, the Prince was the first to lay a wreath which bore the message: "In grateful and everlasting memory - Charles."

  • We were all allies not BRITISH CANADIAN OR AMERICAN

  • @carlbyronrodgers

Are we talking about D-Day or general invasion of France?

  • @spudnick3490

    8th Air Force USAF

    2nd Bombardment Division

    2nd Combat Wing

    14th Combat Wing

    20th Combat Wing

The UASF boasted they could place a bomb in a pickle barrel and of course Bradley's incompetence.

No RAF were involved so Obama got it wrong.Re writing history is never very wise.

  • @carlbyronrodgers

Acutally no..The RAF were biggest contributor to bombing raids on enemy cities..And the RAF also did tactical bombings on German bases in France

  • First, it was The Royal Air Force not air corp

Two ,it was USA Air force who did the bombing not The RAF.

  • First it was The Royal Air Force not air corp

Two it was USA Air force who did the bonbing not The RAF.

  • Thank you all for once again coming here and forgetting that 75% of all troops involved in D Day were British or canadian so less than a quater were American, yet thats all we talk about, its an utter disgrace that we allow this travesty of historical accuracy to continue. By the way in no way am I lessening the bravery of American soldiers not at all, I am merely saying can we please put it into the context that the most of the troops were Britiish.

  • Thank you Obama!

  • @TheFighterpilot93: while you smell like shit. Wipe up.
