Around 2000, X-Play with hosts Adam Sessler and Kate Botello ran a montage of Playstation videos to the "Liberi Fatali" from Final Fantasy VIII. Over time I had my own ideas of what a video montage would be like as a history of videogames up until that point. I started the project in Feb. 2002, and last worked on it in December of that year.
After upgrading my Mac, I could no longer work on the project with Final Cut Pro since it was no longer compatible with a G5 unless I spent money I couldn't justify to upgrade it, so the project languished for eight years. Last week, I upgraded Final Cut and revisited the project. It still loaded and ran perfectly, but suffered from the video formats of the time. Instead of redoing months of work to bring the project up to date, I used it as is.
I spent a few days tweaking some of the things that bugged me since I last worked on the project, and finished it. What you see is eight years of on and off work.
This is made up of videogames I own, all of which I probably still do. Two cuts from the original X-Play video are in this montage in the same places, and those are the cuts from the Dino Crisis series. I actually hunted down copies of the game so I could put them in this video. All the other cuts were compiled by me.
This represents the influential games I played from the Atari 2600 up until 2002 when I last added footage to it. If you want to know why "title X" isn't in it, it's probably because I couldn't fit it in.
I hope you enjoy it.
Sensors have detected another quarter in your pocket.
