Female Genital Mutilation in Kenya

Female Genital mutilation has been and I bet still is a hot debate as many communities tend to disagree with the notion that the practice is illegal and a human right abuse. Currently, Thirty-seven communities still practice female genital mutilation (FGM) ten years after the Government banned the rite here Kenya. The practice is most prevalent among the Maasai where 93 per cent of women undergo the cut. A Demographic and Health Survey, reveals that more girls are now being cut secretly by medical professionals especially in private hospitals. The reality is that fifty per cent of Kenyan women have undergone circumcision. In some areas this percentage is as high as 95 per cent and, as much as 50 percent of the women were operated on when they were aged between 10 and 15 years old.

NO BODY SHOULD BE MUTILATED! annoys the hell out of me, people say its "religious" I'm pretty sure if god wanted us not to have a clitoris or a foreskin, he'd put us on earth like that... have a word with yourself man!

If a parent decided "God says we need to cut off all our childrens ears from now on" (or any part of the body) they would be sent to prison, so what makes the Genitalia any different from the ears?

Where & how to did circumsicion originate, there was obviously a first person to do it, so what made them do it & why. Did someone say God told me we need to remove the clitoris (or foreskin) from all our Children? Why would anyone come up with such a barbaric idea in the name of God?

I will never understand how can mother harm her own child - for any reason, religion, fashion, social or whatever. Mother should never injure her baby on purpose. Never.

Circumcision on children younger then 16 needs to be outlawed in the west (Worldwide really)unless for a medical reason, but because its for religeon its accepted, these children are born it to these religeons & circumsiced at such a young age they are too young to be able to say no.

It should be left until the later teens when they are old enough to make an informed choice & decide if they want be circumcised & carry on with the religeon they were forced into.

@h2oextremepcs its 2012 not 0012, practices like this, including male circumcision is just barbaric. I know its hard to try to police these villages but they should try harder to stop this happening & the people who do do it need to be punished.

The clitoris is just a ball of nerves. I dont know why they feel the need to cut of nerves, I just cant get my head round it.

Religeion is one big contradiction, If God created us, then he gave us genitals & created us the way we are for a reason, so why do they then feel that they have to cut off parts thst they say God put there in the first place?

Nothing to do with religeon, its so the Men can have better control over their Women & to prevent adultery.

Its a discusting pointless practise that serves no purpose, just like Make circumcision the foreskin is there for a REASON, to protect the glans.
