2009-2010 NCSU Aerospace Vehicles Senior Design Team Seraph
This year's project required the design, construction, and flight test of a vertical take off and landing (VTOL) UAV capable of carrying a specified camera package intended to be used for surveillance. Our team selected a tilt-wing architecture to satisfy the customer requirements.
This is a video of the first flight of Seraph. This flight was intended to judge the handling of the aircraft and start measuring its dynamic response. After fighting the wind all flight, the flight ended abruptly when a tree top was impacted during the final landing approach. Surprisingly, only the fuselage sustained significant damage, and it was able to be repaired in time for another test flight the next day.
