Neil reading his poem from Fragile Things during a Tokyo signing event on 21st of September, 2007.

(Caveat: The clicky sounds and chimes come from people taking pictures with their mobile phones and others who for some unimaginable reason set their cameras to make a sound whenever they take a picture. I know how annoying it is and I'm very sorry, but cannot do much about it.)

  • Just a note on the camera noises; in Japan it is legally required for digital cameras and cell phone cameras to make noises when taking a picture, with no option to disable the noise, so as to discourage upskirt shots and the like in crowded, public places.

  • You're wrong on that, digital cameras can be set to silent mode. That's exactly why I worded the info the way it is.

  • I've seen several videos of him performing this poem, and normally everyone laughs because they are English speakers. I note that it looks harder to read it when the laughter isn't forthcoming. Oh, the woes of reading without response. :( But good for him to do it anyway.

  • @sesamsys Actually asteriskasterisk is absolutely correct. There are almost no cell phones in Japan with the option to disable the shutter noise on the camera. A quick google search would inform you of as much. Not to mention Wired magazine had an article about it

  • are you SURE?

I think he might be an alien.

  • easy for him to say; he's not an alien

  • Oh, Neil. <3
