Why would you want "more straightforward pop" songs? That's the last thing the world needs. Besides hyper-intelligent and organized bears of course.

allow me to further clarify: regardless of the popularity of the song right now (in terms of how many people have heard it), a "pop" song is a song that many people can relate to, and enjoy. smiths songs fall into this category...in fact, "indie" and "folk" would be considered sub-genres of pop...and, of course, when pop kicks ass, you call it rock, or pop rock...this debate is boring
