Turkey condemned by ECHR - human rights violations in Cyprus

European Court of Human Rights delivers guilty verdict against Turkey over the brutal killing of Greek Cypriots, Solomos Solomou and Tasos Isaac, during demonstrations at the Green-Line on Cyprus in 1996, as well as for having totally failed to effectively investigate those killings subsequently. The significance of the judgements is that as with the many rulings against Turkey over issues of denying fundamental human rights to property in the north to Greek Cypriots such as Titina Loizidou (who was a childhood friend of mine from Kyrenia) is again deemed to be 'the controlling power' and the guilty party over affairs in the area of northern Cyprus which has been occupied by the Turkish army since its invasion of the island in 1974, and that the so-called Government in 'the north' is not held responsible, but Turkey is.
