Note: The camera was put down for a bit , which is why the shot jumps to the child suddenly being free. They didn't expect to find a little girl and rescue her, which is why it doesn't seem like the man who eventually carries her off really knows the child. It did not start out as a rescue effort, so it really is a miracle. There are some people who doubt the hero of the reporters, but every person there acted heroically.

Richard Moran, a cameraman with the commercial Nine Network, put down his camera and lifted pieces of concrete out of the way while Nine's interpreter and fixer Deiby Celestino climbed into the tangled mess to retrieve the child.

"And then, out of the ruins came this little girl, and I will never forget it. She did not cry. She looked astonished, almost as if she was seeing the world for the first time," Nine reporter Robert Penfold told The Australian.

The images of the child's rescue were captured by Nine's major rival Seven, and footage beamed around the world showed Seven's correspondent Mike Amor holding the dusty little girl and giving her water.

"That moment, it was beyond news," Amor said. "I haven't seen anything so remarkable since the birth of my own child. The emotion for all of us has been incredible."

Amor said the news crews and the locals who had helped locate the girl were concentrated on rescuing the child rather than news priorities.

"The focus of everybody on that hill was the little girl, and as any of us will tell you, it was Deiby who went into that hole, and dug, and dug, until he got that little girl out. He's the hero," he told The Australian.

  • Mike Amor (the first guy that holds the baby) didn't do shit! it was all Richard Moran ( cameraman from Channel 9) is the one that found her and saved her

  • In the description Richard Moran is the man listed first. It mentions that he picked up rubble so someone could retrieve the child. He got his credit ;)

  • This god you speak of sounds very barbaric if he requires the death of innocents to be glorified.

  • @babyconpop Haiti was and still is one of the poorest countries in the world kid.

  • @contactviolet There was another news clip that explained things in more detail. The man she was handed to was her uncle, the only relative she had left alive.

  • @missykayeallen maybe your right and I may have been too harsh. They obviously have no experience dealing with children or know too much about shock or medicine but I think my concern was also the person they handed her over to. I hope that she ended up with either the red cross as she needed immediate professional care ......

  • @mrcabdriver1 You should not attack someones faith just because you have been blinded by hate and ignorance. If you choose not to believe that is your right, respect believer's rights and move on!

  • @MUN7001 No one needs this, no one deserves this. It happens every where and will happen again. Do you say the same cruel things about New Orleans, 911, and other tragedies that wipe out masses of innocent people? Can you not think for one second as if it were your family, friends or country? Shame on you!

  • @fuxu123 It is not God that makes or lets these things happen. People need to stop blaming Him or using Him as an excuse. The fact of the matter is simple, He is ever present and when tragedies happen He is with the victims every step of the way, holding their hand and giving them comfort. Bad things need to happen for people to appreciate the good when they have it. It is sad and horrible, but God should not be blamed.

  • @contactviolet Seems to me you don't know what you would do until you are put into that situation and so you should not comment on things you know nothing about. People in a situation like that react first and think later, that is human nature. They saved a child, enough said.

  • wtf all those guys there standing around and the cameraman had to dig her out?

and if i were standing above the corpses of my whole family i would probably need a sec to remember shit too.
