Back in the 80's, studying English in Japan was a pretty big craze, now it's somewhat dying down but this is yet another example of how English study could be made fun in the form of a game
Do they have something like the top-loader that can play both SNES games and Super Famicom games? I mean I guess something such as the Retro Duo would, but I want something high quality. I don't really want to go in my SNES to disable some chip or whatever.
@VideoGamePervert The European version is basically the same game as it was released in Japan and the US (simply "Popeye"). This game was a Japan-only version that was made to teach English words.
I got the european version of this game and it's not a language lesson type of game, in the european version you must collect the hearts(or whatever comes down) that Olive throws before they end up drowning in the water. Meanwhile you needed to evade Brutus from stomping your ass. It was quite addicting but so very different from the version you are showing Luke.

You're right, that sound does get annoying pretty quickly.
The title music reminds me of DKJR Math.
Brutus is running around like he's on crack or something! :P

There are 2 games in Japan just like they did w/ Donkey Kong Jr and Donkey Kong Jr math.
There is Popeye and then this Popeye's learning english...you can download an Eng patch from your fav trans sites (thanks to King Mike).
