Michael Moore joined nurses and members of the AFL-CIO in support of single payer universal healthcare at the AFL-CIO's September 2009 convention in Pittsburgh, PA.
Moore and nurses celebrated the AFL-CIO's history-making announcement to endorse single payer healthcare for all, and led a march to the premiere of Moore's new film: Capitalism, A Love Story. Moore has a long history of supporting labor; his uncle participated in the 1936-37 Flint, Michigan sit-down strike that led to the formation of the United Auto Workers Union.
Moore and members of the California Nurses Association/National Nurses Organizing Committee spoke out on behalf of millions of uninsured and under-insured Americans. Other convention speakers included Leo Gerard, International President of the United Steelworkers Union, Cecil Roberts, President of the United Mine Workers, Rose Ann DeMoro, Executive Director of the California Nurses Association, Deborah Burger, Co-President of CNA/NNOC, and Greg Junemann, IFPTE President.
