Sundance Film Festival 2011 "The Hunter And The Swan Discuss Their Meeting"

A Brooklyn couple have dinner with a hunter and his girlfriend, a magical swan woman. It doesn't go well.

Programmer's Note: Emily Carmichael is in many ways a Renaissance girl. As a Harvard University undergraduate, she studied painting and literature; wrote and directed two full-length plays; directed a production of "Macbeth: The Puppet Shakespeare" for which she designed and sculpted 22 clay puppets; and created the comic strip "Whiz Kids," which ran in the "Harvard Crimson" for more than two years. In 2006, she entered the MFA film program at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, where she has written and directed several live-action and animated shorts in addition to a couple of short documentaries. Carmichael's films have screened at the Anthology Film Archives, Slamdance, the South by Southwest Film Festival, and the CineVegas International Film Festival. Her newest film—"The Hunter and the Swan Discuss Their Meeting"—is a modern dating fable set in a magical world where naked swans become human and romantic unions between birds and people are not without their share of problems. It's as funny as it is fantastical and shows Carmichael's ability to bring together two unlikely worlds in one very funny setting. It really DOESN'T matter. I've never experienced love at first sight. It took me three months to work up the nerve to ask Justine out in high school. We dated for five years before I proposed last December, we're getting married in August, and neither of us had any great first impressions of each other.

The swan story is so like story like the korean folk tale at the end the man gave back her maiden heaven gown or she she was able to take it back and took her son and flew away back to heaven.

Saw this on the future shorts channel and at the Florida Film Festival and loved to seeing both times

It's possible that someone will at some point make a short film better than "The Hunter And The Swan Discuss Their Meeting." But my conservative guess is that this won't happen for another 10,000 years, at which time humans will be wraith-like vapors that communicate via soul-piercing screams.

Wonderful little film!! Has lots of the great qualities of a David Lynch. Great actors and story and really funny- made me laugh out loud. Heck, even that poster is funny.
