Writer/Director Craig Brewer ("Hustle & Flow," "Black Snake Moan") delivers a new take of the beloved 1984 classic film, "Footloose." Ren MacCormack (played by newcomer Kenny Wormald) is transplanted from Boston to the small southern town of Bomont where he experiences a heavy dose of culture shock. A few years prior, the community was rocked by a tragic accident that killed five teenagers after a night out and Bomont's local councilmen and the beloved Reverend Shaw Moore (Dennis Quaid) responded by implementing ordinances that prohibit loud music and dancing. Not one to bow to the status quo, Ren challenges the ban, revitalizing the town and falling in love with the minister's troubled daughter Ariel (Julianne Hough) in the process.

Interesting. Thanks for the correction. I didn't bother to read the synopsis since it's not something I'd be interested in watching personally. However, it's a new story so here's credit where credit is due (not that it matters).

I wouldn't say "never will" in regards to a Wizard of Oz remake. This film could even be a lead up to the remake. Looking at the recent trend in Hollywood, I'd bet heavily against never.

They never have and never will remake The Wizard of Oz. Oz the Great and Powerful is the story of how Oz (the Wizard) came to Oz (the land). Don't take the word of people who never saw the movie.

No. You are wrong. Completely. 100%

Oz the Great and powerful is BEFORE Dorothy gets there.

Wow, I guess I should have looked it up. I used The Wizard of OZ as an absurd example, but the absurd is quickly becoming the norm in Hollywood it seems. Maybe the new version will be good, and maybe not. One thing's for sure: it'll be remembered about as well as a Saturday night bender.
