Demonstration of the reverse reverb sounds available in an Alesis Quadraverb rack unit, running into a Marshall Shredmaster distortion pedal.

Trying to achieve similar tones to that of Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine.

First time I've spoken directly in one of my videos, apologies for being a bit uneven, I'm not used to the idea of talking to an internet "audience"!

Playing one of my own songs in a totally made up tuning.
It's probably some sort of real tuning but whatever.

I feel I should point out this incredibly awesome video, where the sounds of To Here Knows When from Loveless are recreated using an Electro Harmonix Stereo Memory Man w/Hazari and a Danelectro Overdrive.
The guy who made the video really nailed the tone, and he deserves alot of respect for doing so!

  • Hey I just got a deluxe 85, and I'm having trouble getting it to sound like metal, can you help me out with that since you have one also

  • @joel111592

Obviously for metal, scooping the mids would be the first step but the best advice I can give you is get a decent distortion pedal. The dirt channel on the Deluxe 85 leaves a lot to be desired, and I honestly never use it. Solid state distortion generally sounds a bit thin and wimpy to my ears (but that's just my opinion of course)

  • What a video! The best demo of any equipment I've ever saw. The Fender Deluxe 85 is pretty nice, how much did you payed?!

Keep on doing this great, great songs (and videos)!

  • @cutoffhere

Thanks alot! I'm still new to making gear demos but I'm gonna try and do a few more now that my laptops back in action. I paid roughly 250 euro for the amp a few years ago (bought it in a massive Radiohead phase, lame I know!)

    1. Supposed to be Shred into Alesis, or else the molten aspect is lost a bit.

    2. Sounded good otherwise. I always thought the siren style stuff was overdubs of lead parts with the reverb setting. Thank you for demonstrating that MBV is not super difficult to replicate live.

    3. You wouldn't mind posting the soundcloud, would you? mine is /permute-us ;)

  • @AsmodelSoljah

I tried putting the distortion into the Alesis and honestly hated the results (each to their own I suppose). I've recently acquired a Midiverb 2 so I may re-do this video with my Jazzmaster to try and get as close to the original effects Kevin Shields used as possible.

As for my soundcloud, my username is aycks. Thanks for watching :)

Hahaha deadly! A few of my friends have said the same thing to me in the past. Purely a coincidence I assure you, my hair looks nothing like that anymore.

  • I thought you were kevin shields at first wtf

  • @happydan205 yeah of course i'm interested please any link to something you do would be great and keep on doing this because people like me really apreciate this music.

  • @TheAmcampa

As I've said to everyone else that's given me lovely compliments, thank you!

As of right now I'm without a band (or any sort of musical ensemble), but I hope to change that this year. I do have a Soundcloud account where most of my music is like the track in this video, if you'd like the url let me know :)
