Actually when you aim down the iron sights of the shotty, it seems like the bullets spread around everywhere and lacks accuracy and when you don't aim down the sights you definately get better kills and more accuracy. I usually do quick sight shotgunning, exactly like quick scoping with snipers.

why not use rubber grip instead of red dot, you never need shotty for long range because it's a quick shot weapon, not really one for aiming down the sites.
