Why did the Egyptians mummify animals? One of the most popular misconceptions about ancient Egyptians is that they worshiped animals such as cats, dogs, and birds. Some animals, such as the Apis bull, may have been sacred, but the majority were not. Instead, as in many religions, animals symbolized certain gods and—just like figurines of animals in bronze, terracotta, faience, or other materials—their mummies served as votive offerings to those gods.
Mummified dogs and other animals have also been found at Peru and many other ancient locations. Ofcourse not all the mummified dogs found in the world are not mummified by mankind but by natural couses, such as the tragedy of Pompei, where people and all animals were turned in to stone when the mountain of fire made all hell loose freely...

@superman3384 yes egyptologia is very interesting but somehow it makes me feel sick when i think how they keep on searching for the ancient tombs where the mummies of people and animals have been resting for thousands of yeas.. even archeologists should not have the right of robbing graves and putting bodies in museums for people to see. it's disrispecting.. But i guess we'd know a lot lesser about egypt if they did not do it..
