Unfortunately it has been forgotten for the same reasons it occured in the first place, cyprus being a strategic island was invaded by a nato member during the height of the cold war and is purposefully being forgotten for the sake of strategic usa interests in the eastern mediteranean and middle east
Having just seen the Riz Khan item for which this 1 minute slot item was a preparation -- I totally lost my previous high respect for Riz Khan. Rather than treating the item with any fairness, he offered his media slot for blatant Turkish propaganda. Disgusting!
Numerous comments here testify to how badly the world has forgotten Turkey's invasion and continuing occupation which led to the division of Cyprus, and in its 'diplomatic way' even the EU has swept aside the issue of invasion and continuing occupation, dealing instead with lifting the embargo on Cyprus ships entering Turkey's ports!
yes i think that is the case infact there are no reports on the conflict of cyprus on the media that includes aljazeera (except ur show) may be its just that if cyprus is divided than it will produce another Muslim country in the world especially it will be important that it will be in europe and EU dont want that
Well I didnt even know there were any divisions on Cyprus Island. To be honest, I dont know much about its modern history at all. That's too bad, but yeah, the media mostly reports on Iraq now, so I don't really know whats going on in any of the smaller countries. =(
I'm a student of history, so I know a good deal about the historical significance of Cyprus through several different time periods. However, I was, until now, completely unaware that the island is divided.
If it helps put things in perspective: I'm an American. I've studied exclusively at an American university, with classes taught by Americans. A vast majority of the books I've read (on virtually all subjects) have been written by Americans.
I wasn't even aware that Cyprus was divided. Obviously this is an ignorant statement, but I suppose the media has been reporting on far more pressing issues such as the war in Iraq & Afghanistan, Iranian politics, and the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

Shame on Turks! Their history is only atrocities against Armenians, Pontians, Greeks, Cypriots.
