Sorry for not posting this for such a long time, I have had people asking me when the second part would be uploaded for as early as the first part part was uploaded, around July 2008!
Well, here it is, the second part of the Enigma Variations by Elgar. This part includes the famous "Nimrod". The performers are the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. They are conducted by Simon Rattle.

  • edwardian england...the autumn of the British Empire...i listened to this at cliveden in england 35 years ago at queen victoria's favourite summer palace...and soon to be purchased by lady astor and frequented by her nemesis winston churchill...i think the teacher of the class who'd come in from london also must have felt a once in a lifetime juxtaposition of locale, nobility, and music...we thank God for travelling with England all these centuries!

  • do you suspect he would NEVER have had a clue that Nimrod would have been plucked out of this work and made extraordinarily famous? I bet Jaeger wasn't on his priority list, however there might be a story in that

  • Fabulous earthatic! ;)

  • This piece is Edward Elgar's The ENGIMA (!) Variations 00:08. Engima? Sounds like some kind of an illness!

  • You've heard that this piece is superb. Now please sample Elgar's Introduction and Allegro for Strings and Dream of Gerontius. Elgar is right up there with best of them. So proud I am. As an Englishman. There is a clear Britishness about his music. A very hearty and positive thing it is, too.

  • Great piece!

I rarely listen to Elgar, but this piece opens a new meaning for me.

    Thankyou so much for posting!

  • Excellent performance by Sir Simon...not quite as extatic in "Nimrod" than the old Bernstein recording but very convincing.....
