Me covering the Alto 1 part of A Few Good Men by Gordon Goodwin (ASCAP) and his Big Phat Band. Not perfect, but I'm proud. Playing this for 2009 CLC Jazz in Willmar.

  • you bite down on the mouth piece with the top and stop being so stiff at the bottom ...o and by the way you should be using a brighter mouth piece and try some lead tape you can get it at a golf shops jon faddis showed that one .. you should look up jon faddis

  • @jordantsimon When I stop being broke I'll get right on it.

  • Wow you are like amazing.... I'm playing the 2nd alto part in my high school jazz band. :) what kinda of saxophone\mouthpiece do you use?

  • @livelaughjonas59 Aww, thanks! (I still don't think it's my best though =/)

I play a P. Mauriat System 76 Custom 2nd Edition (Yeah, it's a mouthful!) and I'm just using a Selmer C* mouthpiece. I forget what reed I'm using here, but I'm pretty sure it's a #3 Vandoren Java reed. Those things switch up your tone for jazz big time if you're ever interested. :)

  • why are you recording in your bathroom? o,o

  • @xxzhoutaixx Because I have a good radio in there. :P

  • in and used it for contemporary jazz also, and it costs about as much as a c* but yeah, play around with mouthpieces man, it can really help you get the sound you want and sound is really importatnt. Hope I could help ya out! Any more questions, just lemme know!

  • Oh and for the record, Charlie parker did play on a c*, but contemporary jazz is better with a brighter mouthpiece. In addition to that, because you're playing on a system 76, you'r gunna want a really bright mouthpiece because that dark laquer gives you a darker sound. I play on a P Mauriat RCL which is a pretty bright sound, but can be dark when I want it to be, and I use a Jody Jazz DV. I use a Jody jazz classic for classic jazz an before I had the money for a DV, I put the spoiler...

  • Hey there! I'm a fellow sax player and have played this song quite a bit also, on those A's use a little bit of separation instead of trying to make them sound like one note, and try to cut off with the band for for the other notes too, and the mouthpiece, you should get a brighter one like someone said earlier and about the biting too, but good job! You're off to a great start! :)

  • that was pretty awesome, this has got be one of GG's best.
