If your career can be ended by a few jokes by Ben Elton it can't have been on very stable footing in the first place.
Benny had a fair crack of the whip and a long career in television. But times change and Benny was always going to be one of the first casualties of the burgeoning alternative scene.

some arse on this page says the comedy hasn't aged well. Er hello! Do we stil eat shit in macdonalds? yes. do we stil get pissed off by health freeks? yes. At least ben elton never had a top 10 hit with a song about a fuckin milkman! I like benny hill but there's no contest.

@petersingingbloke Comedy is a very subjective thing, nobody is a "thick cunt" for wanting to debate what's funny and what isn't. To each his own.

Totally agree, Scooby71Doo. Benny Hill had a lot more talent than this tosser and successfully continued for decades without drying up on material-unlike Elton. Though The Benny Hill Show looked like slap-stick on the surface, underneath it was good intelligent comedy. Ben Elton wrote 2 good comedies. Blackadder 2 and 3. Blackadder 4 was fairly average and as a stand-up he's more aggravating than funny. A third rate comic that run out of material back in the mid 80's

@mattsflix Don't forget Elton co-wrote two excellent series of "The Young Ones" as well. I think Benny Hill and Ben Elton are both funny but in different ways, but Elton can get on your nerves with his loudmouth politics.
