Hygeine is important no doubt.
But Islamic pressures from outside and their kin that have converted is the biggest threat to them. Once they marry someone from outside their traditional culture and into Islam the women are kept against there will if they want to leave Islam.
These people must have freedom to either stay in their traditions and if they leave they should have the freedom to leave Islam or any other religion if they choose to and return to their pagan ways if they wish.

Kalash come first ,Tourism is second, health facilities are non existent in Kalash people have to go to Peshawer for treatment with borrowed money of Compound interests , there is only one doctor in Ayun the rest is all paper work,Australians, have built toilets and other basic hygene facilities,Greeks have built schools and water systums so where are all the scholers who made money from Kalash where are all the great tv stations who have made documentaries about kalash ,CASHING on poor KALASH.
this is how mankind has lived throughout centuries , one of the major reason is infant mortality.
this is one of the highest rate , as a third world country non available of Vacines in the far flung areas specially among children ,thats why polio effected children live in Kalash families ,things are improving I hope it will take some time. Children are going to school neat and clean ,
reading in kalasha language and winter is long ,Passes are blocked so no health clinics still for Kalash

I agree with u on that. But 1 good thing i saw there was that some local & semi govt. organizations r doing well to overcome these problems. I was in Bamburet & found a very reasonable hospital there for basic health issues. The staff was good, the facilities were good. They were also looking to improve the "Bashalini" (reserved place for child birth). There they r also trying to educate the locals. I hope there is same progress in Ranbur & Birir as well. I wish them success for their efforts.

when I visited kalash in 1980 the kalash people were 5000 strong ,Democracy came to Pakistan In 1989 I visited again this time the poulation was 4000 strong and in 2008 kalash are 3500 . Kalash are diminishing infant mortality rate is very high Children die like flies the greek ngos are working since the last ten years to improve the life of Kalash thats why i say every document of Kalashas is very very precious ,
it is good that young people like you can take charge thanks for your efforts

In my opinion, one of da main reason of diminishing Kalash is da extremely unhygenic conditions they're living in.
Uniqueness apart, they are far from "cleanliness" in their culture. They almost dont bath, there is no proper washroom system, The "Maweshi Khana" place was so smelly that i couldnt stay there for more than 30 seconds. They r very innocent, ignorant & backward people. but luckily, some organizations r now doing well to teach them & to make them realize da importance of cleanliness.

Hello mbbugi,
Thanx for ur appreciation.
I visited Kalash this May & was surprised to see da existence of such a unique & ancient culture in todays world.
The lifestyle & traditions of Kalash tribes r realy unbelievable. I do have more stories to tell, such as "Kodalak", but unfortunately, I dont have sufficient amount of images to present it.
The places like Kalash are da real beauty of Pakistan, which is being destroyed by terrorism now.
I only wish Kalash a much longer existence.
