Australian entertainers in the Solomons

A group of Australian entertainers have successfully completed a concert tour for deployed forces in the Solomon Islands.

The tour comprising of country music singer, John Williamson; singer and song writer, Ami Williamson; singer and song writer Nicki Gillis; musician Jed Zarb; Big Brother's Mike Goldman; and Tanya Arlidge provided a highlight for Australian troops and police serving in the Solomon Islands.

The tour concluded with a concert on Thursday night at the main base in Honiara where the entertainers wowed the personnel in the Solomon Islands.

"Singing to the lads was a pleasure and an honour. To feel their appreciation is a great reward and a great experience," said John Williamson.

The Australian performers have now returned to Australia and are available for one-on-one interviews about the experiences during the tour.This has been the tenth Forces Entertainment Tour de Force to visit the Solomon Islands. The performers gave their time for free, a tradition that pre-dates the Vietnam War.

Operation Anode is the name of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) contribution to the Australian-led Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands (RAMSI).

Australian soldiers -- along with soldiers from New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Tonga -- are supporting police from a total of 16 Pacific nations (including Australian Federal Police) as they back up the Solomon Islands Police Force in its task of restoring law and order. RAMSI began in 2003 at the request of the Solomon Islands Government.
