The SR556 series is an overpriced piece of junk. I bet Ruger is losing money on these after all the people who purchased them had to send it back for repairs due to bolt carrier tilt wear. $1,400.00 for another failed AR piston design that doesn’t even make it through the first 1,000 rounds – forget it. Spend your coin a REAL AR, a Colt LE6940 M4 carbine. There’s nothing wrong with a quality DI AR15.

A chrome barrel is not necessary or that important. This barrel is cold hammer forged steel. Sniper rifle barrels aren't chrome lined either because chrome degrades the accuracy. This barrel isn't going to rust out if you clean it or wear out unless you are very wealthy or have access to free ammo. 30,000 rounds of ammo cost about $6400. You going to shoot that much? I doubt it.

You can get a proper bore with chrome lined barrel and doing so does not lessen the accuracy at all. if your statement to be true, then why do all the expensive AR's have chromed lined barrels? it's a rhetorical question BTW, there is no need to answer, I already know.......SMDH!

The chromed barrel, carrier, bolt and gas regulator are what makes the SR-556 piston rifle a cleaner and easier to care for/ longer lasting gun. This version is like buying a Corvette with an Aveo engine, what's the point?
