The ongoing intergenerational computer and keyboarding course keeps plus 50 adults and teens on their toes at Central Florida Community College (CFCC). The 12-hour training is taught by volunteer high school students trained and coached in working with the plus 50 learners. The high school students teach basic computer operations, the differences between hardware and software, how to set up an e-mail address, and how to compose, send, retrieve and read e-mail. The keyboarding segment of the course focuses on helping participants develop more effective typing skills and utilizing a computer mouse. The training helps plus 50 students become comfortable with the computer and competent in basic operations. The teen instructors received volunteer service credits for their efforts. Because of this courses success, other courses are in development covering cell phone usage, text-messaging, utilizing a digital camera and using an iPod.
