  • One of the best films of silent era !!! Lon Chaney the KING !!!

  • I love it, Z! Lon Chaney is so badass. And Webber is a genius, his music is perfect for the Phantom's story.

  • I want that Red Death costume. Has there ever been a better interpretation of a Poe idea ever than Chaney, as Erik, as the Red Death? (well, maybe Vincent Price as Prospero, appropriately enough, but that's a discussion to have later)

  • This equals win.

  • @MissyH316 totally agree

  • One last comment... don't you just LOVE the opening menacing, growling organ music to accompany the eerie, creepy effects with the title card? Being familiar with both this movie and the musical, I always thought these two elements would work well together and I'm glad to see they do! AWESOME stuff.

  • @scarface12347 Of course, the mechanics of having both effectuve grotesque makeup AND allowing the singer the best ability to use his voice led to the stage musical's Phantom not being anywhere near as frightening as the master's, Lon Chaney's. Also, ALW wanted more of a romance instead of a horror feeling; okay. But what ticked ME off was with ALW was his atrocious casting of Gerard Butler as the Phantom in the 2004 movie! No diss to Gerry, but HERE, in 1925, is how the real Phantom looked!

  • @therleyt Well, the brief colorization you saw was at least from the original film, and the not added-on colorization travesty that so many other old movies have gotten. And of course, color in film was still quite the novelty but was used well in POTO for certain scenes like the Masque of the Red Death and the rooftop scene. But it all would've been for nothing if not for LON CHANEY SR. "Chaney - or it can't be done!" One of the few SMART things director Rupert Julian insisted on!!!!

  • Oh man this is tits!!!

  • I think you all should probably know by now that this "masterpiece" is just a rip-off of pink floyd's Echoes. Sad but true

  • 7 people r jelus of Christine

  • This vid is amazing! I love the original silent movie, Lon Chaney & Andrew Lloyd Webber. Good job =]
