We are well known for wishing for world peace, especially at Christmas time. But just what is world peace, and is it even possible?
Peace Direct asked the people they fund - from Zimbabwe to Afghanistan and places inbetween, how they will know when there is peace in their country. Watch the video to see what they told us, it's the simple things many of us take for granted, like being able to travel at night, or for women to leave their homes without fear of kidnap. It's not a lot to wish for... it's everything to wish for.
So, this is the fun bit -- We want your help to raise awareness of a new idea -- that yes peace is possible and, in every conflict, there are local people stopping violence and uniting communities. Because peace isn't just an abstract concept, it's very real, and the most important thing any of us have.
We want you to change your status on facebook and tell everyone what peace is to you, for example, "For me, it's when I go for long walks with my family", or " For me, it's when I'm surrounded by friends and we don't stop laughing." It can be something silly, it can be something serious, whatever it is, just post it below. Let's see how many people we can get talking about what peace means to them, and maybe this year, when we wish for world peace, we'll know what we're wishing for.
