The action here does not seem very reminiscent of Pualus Kal's Poleaxe Treatise (KK5126) or others. Are these WMA/HEMA practitioners or jousters (only)? I am curious because I see a lot more banging and a lot less binding/winding/grappling than I would expect. Beautiful polaxe "wasters" by the way.

@voidlogic Thanks for your comments mate. One of the main reasons for the hitting opposed to grapple and binding is due to the fact its tournament, and specifically tournament of counted blows with some extra win conditions. Most of the guys you see fighting there are mainly jousters with some foot combat experience, so thats another reason. Also the technical side of poleaxe fighting that you see in manuals is very difficult to execute in harness at full speed and full contact. better next time

Wow! Loved the video! One Question: Are the polleaxes' heads aluminium?

The clanging sound during hits tells me they're not rubber and the bent dague suggests aluminium. Also, who made them for the Tournament?

The heads are made of a hard rubber with a metal core. They are made and sold through Historic Enterprises. They are fantastic to fight with, as they are safe enough to fight at full speed with when fighting with good quality full armour. They are weighted like a steel axe to make the fighting more realistic. Check them out.

@voidlogic i suppose it's somewhat like the techniques used in a real fight won't come out exactly like the techniques in a book. It's a lot more difficult to execute techniques against a live opponent. But do be fair to the combatants, you do see elements of the fechtbuch techniques in what they're doing: deflecting blows with the haft, hooking and tripping, etc.

Pole axes a knight’s weapon of choice but was considered a peasants weapon. Knights were supposed to carry a sword. Most likely because the cost a hell of a lot more than a hunk of metal on a stick.

Why are they fighting with their face guard up? Their faces exposed to attack and fatal injury.

Their lack of eye protection disturbs me, I can just imagine someone getting an eye gouged out.
