i love his intros to wrs prelude and the awesome China Cat counter-melody and Feelin' Groovy jam outro.
i tell folks i play percussion like a rhythm guitarist.

Bob is awesome. He was a founding member of the Grateful Dead. Only argument we need.

The sound on this recording is insane. It has to be one of the better quality recordings. Everything is so clear and up front but in place. AMAZING!!!

bob weir is hands down the most underrated guitarist ever and hes a great songwriter. weather report sweet is a masterpeice. improvising rhythm guitar is alot harder tham improvising leads espesially the way bob does it, with alot of complex voiceleading.

agreed. as a songwriter, he's hit or miss. as a vocalist, he's lovable but clunky.
as a performer, a bit of a cheeseball. but as a rhythm guitarist, he is an absolute genius.
the best there is.

Are you sure all the pics are from 74? The picture of Phil at 2:00 minutes, I think is a little bit later. If I remember correctly, he had a pretty big, furry beard during most of 74. And the picture at 2:40, I'm not sure about either, as I think Jerry had retired the "Alligator" Strat in favor of the "Wolf" guitar by then. Regardless, it's a cool slide show, love seeing pictures of The Dead from this period, especially of Jerry playing the Wolf.

This is a gem! It's stellar all these freshies got reserved in time to pass on through the generations

This is one of the best jams they ever had. Listen to Phil fucking Lesh throughout. Proof positive they were the best band in the world from 1970-1977.

@horbergaren - in 1973 the Dead had a huge sound system built, it became known as the "Wall of Sound". They wanted something very loud and very clear. If you google "Wall of Sound" you'll find more about it. They used it in '74 but the cost and effort of transporting it around became too much.
You know I always thought this. I've heard many people putting Bob down for the volume of his guitar, or that they don't think he's any good. As a musician myself, I've found Bob's playing to be full of surprises. He has little things to add the mix to make it sound awesome. Like the small vibrato's he incorporates in dark star, or the beginning of Big River. All these guy's are awesome, without each other, there would be no Dead!
