peacekeepers cant end the violence if there is no deal or pact between the fighting forces within a country. they are peace keepers, not peace makers. although having peacekeepers in the congo might bring some security to the people of the congo, and peace of mind to americans, it will not do much unless the people involved in the conflict have initiative. its been policy for a long time. and i think it sucks.
Africa has nothing to do with Europe - if China wishes to aid Africa let them do so. You on the other hand have elected a President who made Africa part of his election campaign - so really you promised to help Africa, American troops should therefore be there. On the other issue yes America should leave Latin America, but Africa can only benefit from your involvement.
America should stop "changing the world" through military and economics. Did you see what Americans have done to Latin America?
I am tired of seeing American cooperation intervening in local politics and the local people just start to blame everything to the United States. If Uncle Sam wants to change the world, send more educators and NGO. Let other foreign cooperation (French, British, and Chinese) take care of Africa.
Nations and peoples have always traded but not to the point where it damages their own countries like multinationals do. These huge companies have tied us all in together like never before. But I agree this conflict needs to end...but I doubt it will without foreign intervention.
There's always been a world economy. From the ancient times to now. We are all interdependent more or less. Anyway, I hope the conflict ends, hope Congo peoples have peace in their lives. enough of war. That is what needs to end, not world economy.
I agree it will not happen - but it probably should as he has promised to aid Africa. America wants to become more protectionist but this will not happen, as Australia, EU, Japan have already threatened to retaliate. I personally believe an end to this global economy would be a very good thing.
Obama can't fix anything anyway. For him to fix Congo's problems means that he must battle the blood thirsty factions of Congo that have been trained to kill for gold/diamonds etc. It's another world. It's up to the people to fight for peace, no Obama who has his hands full in his own country.
That will not happen. He sways to the wind of the American people and their interests. His obligation is the United States first, then the rest of the world. As long as the American people become more ptotectionist and build anti-immigrant sentiments, there will be no help to offer to world conflicts.
perhaps U.S. missions here should be humanitarian volunteer raqther than political. this is BBC anyway how did americans come up in conversation XD
