Had a really nice letter asking me if I could play a Charlie Poole version of this song and I know I have heard it, and I know that I have got an old recording of it somewhere. As soon as I locate it, I will have a go at it. Unfortunately this will have to do in the meantime. I quite like the line 'no ones going to kiss my ruby lips, I don't need no man'. That's one way of making your way in life I suppose.

  • Flying Burrito Bros do it on their album that has Dixie Breakdown, Six days on the Road, with Byron Berline.

  • Cheers TheRycooder .. i couldn't find it on YT but you did introduce me to the FBB.. never heard of them before.. great sounds.. ps Doc watson does a great version of DLYDGD. regards..M:)

  • dear Mr. IChingIChing: I really like this version of not letting my deal go down especially with the union emphasis. Please see my version of the Jerry Garcia rendition of deal. My comment is that you would cut out all comment and just present your singing during your youtube: not that you haven't explained things well but one *must* presume!

  • hi.. i looked for your version but can't seem to find it.. there is a mixed response to my dialogue..sometimes i ramble and sometimes i just play depending on my mood and the song.. just dig what you dig and thanks for listening and dropping me a note.. send me a link to your version.. regards Mike

  • Hi Calum.. right again.. I remember seeing Ralph open with this song some years ago. .thanks for your comments and interest in the songs Mike

  • This version sounds just like Ralph McTell's off the live album "Albert and Sydney".

Awesome cover either way, and I love all the stuff you play; RIGHT up my street (and you're only over in Halifax too!)

  • This is a lovely version. Thank you.
