With the weight of a loco, it'd make easy work of this crossing.

When the railroad briefly reopened in my area, the first train cut throught 4-6 inches of asphalt.

@csxmansam A couple towns over, they just paved over rails that have been around since the early 1900s! I don't understand why they have to do such a thing! Last year I was going to wait til the fall to start walking them, and they dug em up! They're supposed to make a Rail-trail, but its been almost a year now!

@Boss302fan Would have liked to see pics/video of that. I have heard that the force and weight of a train will cut through the pavement on a paved-over crossing but didn't know it had actually been done!

yeah, run the engine over first.

The state of Indiana actually got into a bit of trouble once for removing a crossing that was on an active rail line that saw maybe a few trains per month.

Where Is This!?!?!?!?!!!

there is nothing i hate more than abandoned railroad tracks. there are 6 adandoned lines where i live
I've done that before. Wow does that piss off the city. Had a branch we seldom used and the city just paved right over it. I obtained some car storage business and needed the line. It was Saturday and I couldn't get in touch with the city....so I just shoved cars right over the crossing and up the branch. (slowly). Made a mess of the asphalt and we did receive phone calls from the city the next day. They were in a sort of defenseless position though. Sort of funny.

i hated when they pave crossings or take up tracks i wish they would leave it ,even if they dont use it its nice to keep a little bit of historic rails around.
