http://www.unidesk.com - Doesn't Unidesk do everything ThinApp says it does? Isn't Unidesk supposed to alleviate the need for ThinApp? Reality is that Unidesk and ThinApp are two completely different technologies with different approaches to application management. Both technologies can be used synergistically together, as well as separately. In this video VMware vExpert and Microsoft MVP Ron Oglesby explains the difference between the two technologies and the use cases to utilize Unidesk, ThinApp, or both solutions together.

  • (Part 2) apps and what not installed in 32 bit have not gone through the installer on a 64 bit machine to capture the correct windows settings required to run in a 64 bit world. So even if we moved the personalization layer, lots of items would break/not work natively. This is why we decided not to move WinXP personalization layers to Win7 machines.

    Though you can use the MS USMT tool to migrate users or the Windows Easy Transfer to migrate settings and what not to the new Windows 7 Desktops.

  • (Part 1) A profile can be migrated (we are not a profile company). The Personalization layer though is OS specific. There are too many changes between XP and Win7 to simply migrate the XP based file system and registry and reintegrate the personalization layer and apps. We thought about doing this though most of our customers are moving from XP to Win7 64 Bit...

  • Hey..if I upgrade by OS from XP to Win7, does the user's unidesk layered profile be compatible? Will the user get all their applications they installed on XP VM the same way in Win 7 as well?
