Automated 4- and 5-axis lean manufacturing cell

Makino's new D500 vertical machining center shares the same 400mm pallet as Makino's a51 horizontal machining center, allowing shops to easily combine 4- and 5-axis machining in a single automated flexible manufacturing system.

Efficient machining cells enable an easy transition to lean manufacturing. By adding an automated pallet handling system spindle utilization increases (often up to 95%), setup times are substantially reduced, work in process (WIP) decreases, finished goods inventory can be reduced, and labor costs shrink.
