On behalf of The Maya Conservancy, Mission Izapa 2010 was an unprecedented event of inter-cultural and timely importance. Participants facilitated the way for 13 Guatemalan Maya spiritual guides to re-ignite and re-connect to the spiritual energies in ritual fire ceremony at the ancient site of Izapa, Chiapas, Mexico. This is the site connected to the Maya's creation story, the Popol Vuh, and the initiation of their 260-day sacred and Long Count calendars. No one has performed sacred ritual here for more than 1,000 years. The ballcourt is aligned with the winter solstice in this era of 2012. The mayor of Tapachula welcomed our group as "distinguished visitors". Here is Part 1 of the sacred ceremony, June 24, 2010. Check out www.themayaconservancy.org. You say in the video description, "The ballcourt is aligned with the winter solstice in this era of 2012." That sounds impressive, but it's only half of the truth. As John Major Jenkins himself acknowledges, the ballcourt has been aligned with the Winter Solstice for about the last 2000 years. See my videos "On-Site at Izapa: J. M. Jenkins Demonstrates the Solstice Sunrise Alignment", and "2012: The Astronomy of Quetzalcoatl's Return".
