I think that the post on CenterNetworks via Allen Stern was good and had some awesome points. To the opposite spectrum you have the views of Gary Vaynerchuk who gave valid points as well. I just want balance. You need the tools like facebook and twitter to grow, but the first thing out of your mouth should ALWAYS be YOUR brand.
Vitaminwater sporting thier facebook page is nothing, but a desperate leep to get the youth on their said. People do HATE facebook. & news flash people do HATE twitter. So why have your brand lead with them. How many people dont have a facebook page & think, oh well. Oh & giving the coustomer credit enough to go to Vitaminwater.com is silly. ( A lot of lazy not so bright people out there.)
One tip I saw in the comment section is extremely smart! Make your own short names
ie: iqmz.com/facebook or iqmz.com/twitter now doesnt that look better then twitter.com/iqmz or facebook.com/iqmz.
Why not put myself first? Why not add to my click rate? I mean major brands rep themselves always! You will not catch the guys from Powerade drinking G2!
So I rep myself as much as possible anymore especially on my website. I have even made my own url shortner! I have a short web name why give away my hits to anyone else? Start thinking of little ways you can support your brand. Until the time when you have a huge following & then you can let them do the heavy lifting. In short go grab your fb short name, but dont be bumbed if its taken. Then if you do get it dont work for Facebook (or any other tool) make THEM work for YOU!
