  • Greetings mate! When you are on the ground and the parachute is pulled by the wind in front of you like, you pull the lines that are closer to the ground (grab them with your hands and pul them towards you). By doing this, you cause pressure on the lower part of the chute and the upper part can't generate enough lifting and pulling power and as a result it stalls and the whole parachute drops safely on the ground. This is done for safety measures to prevent dragging the person on the ground ;)

  • Indeed they were supposed to pull lower lines as a standard procedure during the early days of the airborne. Nowadays you are instructed to run 180 degrees around the chute so that it will drop.
