Last week I went up to Metulla to talk to the folks at the IISF, find out about local competitions for my skating students, and see about coaching my skaters on the big ice up there once in a while. It's a nearly 5 hour commute by bus, about 2 1/2 to 3 hours by car. I don't have a car.
The ice up there was nice the day that I was on it, but I've heard that there are a lot of problems with the Zamboni breaking down and the roof dripping. I was just thrilled to be on a large slab of hard ice with no poles in the middle. There was so much room!!! Our little rink in Tel Aviv is minuscule in comparison, and our ice is so soft that normal edge jumps can leave gouges in the ice in the lead up to take off.
I'm looking forward to chasing my skaters around on this big ice in some training sessions soon!
